Based in Toulouse, Laurent Didier, Mathieu Le Ny, and Louis Léger lead a worker-owned cooperative that pursues research-based approaches to architecture: BAST (Bureau Architectures Sans Titre). Rather than asserting a singular vision, each project is informed by site-specific decisions and structural logic. Engaging with modest programmes, including refurbishment projects, BAST carves out new spaces while preserving the integrity of the local vernacular building. Meanwhile, new constructions present fresh methods for connecting with the site. In this selection of eighteen projects, constant calibrations take place between user, site, and material.
